Jul. 7, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Audi AG, a German subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, Monday said it sold a record 66,866 vehicles in the first half of this year, up 11% from a year earlier, Reuters reported.

Audi's June sales also broke records, reaching 13,265 units in the period, growing 28%, said the auto maker.

The company said sales of its A4L model grew 26% to 13,654 units in the first half and helped boost overall sales in the period. Audi's A4L is a derivative of Audi's popular mid-size sedan, built in Chuangchun exclusively for Chinese customers. It has a longer wheelbase than other models.

Sales of Audi's A6L rose 8% to 46,356 units in the first half of this year. The model has helped the auto maker further consolidate its strong position as market leader in the C segment.

Audi entered the Chinese market in 1988 and produces the A4L and A6L with its joint venture partner, FAW Group Corp. Audi’s Chinese dealership network currently includes 137 dealers in 95 cities, and is continuously being expanded.

Oct. 2, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Star Entertainment Ltd<0326>, which controls one of the most sought-after film libraries in Hong Kong's booming film industry, has released its interim report, which showed that the firm recorded a net profit of HK$101 million in the first half of this year.

The figure reflects a surge of 467% compared with the same period of last year, according to the interim report.

Earnings per share were 50 HK cents. China Star Entertainment did not recommend an interim dividend.

The firm's turnover in the first six months was HK$147 million, up 53.1% year on year.

China Star Entertainment is an investment holding company that operates in three segments: film distribution, hotel services and gaming and entertainment.

Midea sells nearly 70% stake of subsidiary to Little SwanPublished: 21 Oct 2009 00:02:01 PST

Guangdong Midea Electric Appliances Co. Ltd (Midea) and Wuxi Little Swan Co., Ltd announced Tuesday that Midea will sell a 69.47 percent stake of its subsidiary that specializes in manufacturing washing machine to Little Swan for 720 million yuan to end internal competition. Midea is a shareholder of Little Swan.

Midea and Little Swan also disclosed that they have signed an agreement framework about this deal on October 18.

As a swap, Little Swan will offer 83.4 million A-shares to Midea at the unit price of 8.63 yuan per share. If this deal is completed, Midea will increase its shareholdings in Little Swan to above 30 percent from of the current 29.64 percent.

A household-appliance industry analyst told Caijing that this deal is actually an asset swap between Midea and Little Swan; Midea sold assets of its washing machine business to Little Swan, and Little Swan sold its shares to Midea.

Until September 30 this year, net asset value listed in the account of the subsidiary was 958 million yuan, and the value of the 69.47 percent stake is 666 million yuan, so the 720 million yuan selling price actually is an 8.1 percent increase in value.

Before the deal, Midea held a 75 percent direct stake in the subsidiary, but it promised not to sell 5.53 percent of its shares in the future. Another 25 percent of shares in the subsidiary are held by a fully-owned subsidiary of Midea named Midea BVI.

After the deal is completed, Little Swan will hold a 69.47 percent stake in the subsidiary, Midea will hold 5.53 percent and Midea BVI will continue to hold 25 percent.

The Midea subidiary will be under Little Swan after the deal, and the problem of internal competition between Midea and Little Swan will be resolved.

Since this subsidiary produces machines for both Royalstar and Midea before, this deal will also result in Little Swan owning three brands, Royalstar, Little Swan, and Midea. This will help Little Swan improve its profitability to consolidate its position in the household-appliance industry. Little Swan's total value of assets will increase by 34.04 percent and the net assets will increase by 11.01 percent.

The deal is still awaiting approval from the general meeting of Little Swan stockholders, the internal decision-making body of Midea, and the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).

Nov. 4, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Changjiang Securities Co Ltd<000783> announced today that it plans to raise RMB 3.24 billion through a rights offering to boost its capital base and expand its business.

The Wuhan-based broker plans to issue three shares for each ten existing shares at RMB 6.5 apiece, said the company in its prospectus.

The company will use part of the proceeds for outlet expansion, aiming to increase the number of its outlets to 100 in 2011 from 61 at the end of June 2009.

The rights offering is expected to be completed this month.

In the first three quarters of this year, the brokerage's net profit was RMB 922 million, up 35.45% year on year. The company's net profit in the third quarter was RMB 286 million, up 515.67% from a year earlier.

Shares of Changjiang Securities gained 5.05% to stand at RMB 21 in the morning session today.
